Captain David Mankowski was born in Teaneck, NJ. He got his pilot's license before his driver's license and started instructing and flying charters at 19. He was hired by Seaboard at age 21. In 1984, Dave fell off a boarding ladder and injured his back. He went on medical disability the following year.
After his flying career ended, Dave started Lifeline, a company that provided oxygen and other medical supplies to hospice patients. He is survived by his wife, Diana Young Mankowski, a former Seaboard flight attendant; daughters Dawn and Dena; and son, Daniel. Dave was just 53 years old when he died.
