Birte "Chris" Christiansen was born in Denmark. She was one of 8 multi‑lingual women out of 450 applicants selected in Europe in 1946 by American Overseas Airlines (AOA) to be flight attendants. While on a crew layover in Iceland, she met Capt. Niles Grover who left AOA for Seaboard in 1948. Chris & Niles were married in New York City, about two months after Niles was hired by Seaboard. Chris and Niles were married for 48 years. Chris volunteered to fly as a F/A on trips for Seaboard with Niles and many times when they needed one.
Chris was predeceased by Niles in 2011; brother, Eric; and sisters, Karen and Greta. She is survived by her son, Jan; and two grandchildren, Casey and Tyler. Chris and Niles lived in Weatherly, Penn. where she was president of the Weatherly Flower Club. She and Niles are seen above in a raft with other Seaboard crewmembers during ditching training.
