John H. Mahoney was born in New York City and graduated from Columbia University in 1940. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. At Seaboard, he served 20 years as senior vice president; and as a member of the board of directors. After the merger with Flying Tigers, he continued to serve as vice president. He was well‑known as an innovator in the air cargo industry having introduced specific commodity and air container tariffs. He was also instrumental in developing standard-sized air cargo containers.
In 1983, he founded John H. Mahoney Associates, an aviation and transportation consulting company based in Lake Success, N.Y.
John Mahoney was survived by his wife, Noreen. He is seen here in 1964.
