John Willmott's Pond

jw_h4.jpg

This is John's account of the pond he built for his new house at age 92!

This is a small garden pond I built. We picked the "free form" plastic liner with part 18 inches deep. I dug the hole, compacted soil, leveled It as I went along and back filled it as I added water to same level. I set it about a big quarter of an inch lower away from the house for overflow. After it all checked out as I planned, we had someone come in and pour cement around the top and lay the broken and cut marble pavers around it and grout them in. The stones "in a heap" are the unfinished fountain which I stopped them from doing because I felt they were not doing it as well as Joan and I could do. We bought the circulating pump a week ago but have not had time yet to set it up. It pumps direct drive 360 gallons per hour at one foot heights and it gets down to some 260 at about 3 feet which is about where we will use it for our frog to shoot it from his mouth into the pool to aerate the water for whatever else we put in the pool.
